Mens Club Results January 8th
There was a good showing for this Sundays competition with many peoples New Years Resolution being to prove they are actually good golfers, and the scores seemed to match that resolution. In first place was the Captain himself Sean McEvoy setting out his stall early this year, and showing the rest how its done. In second place was Conor McEvoy with Richard McEvoy in third. What a group, from now on they will be known as the Virginia Golf Club Bee Gee's. Special mention to last years Golfer of the Year James O'Brien for another good showing this week. Can he make it 2 years in a row?
Are you overweight? Sick of being stuck in the house? Crave adult conversation or even want to start playing golf? Well membership of Virginia Golf Club will answer all of these questions, for further details please contact Captain Sean McEvoy on 086 8055386. Everyone is welcome.
Mens Club New Years Day Results
2017 started with a bang for some members, others played golf. It was great to see so many members on the course squeezed into slightly tighter chinos due to the Christmas excess and on what was a lovely morning for golf. The scoring was as usual exceptional with Stephen Kockott leading the way with 40 points on a count back from Finbarr O'Reilly with 2016's Golfer of the Year starting as he means to go on with 39 points. Well done everyone, heres to more golfing fun in 2017.
Know anyone else who would like to play golf as a New Years Resolution? Get them down to Virginia Golf Club and let them see what a friendly club we are.

Mens Results July 24th:
In a world that seems to be increasingly going mad, the halcyon shore line of Lough Ramor allows its members drive up its leaf canopied drive way and forget the trials and tribulations outside the gates. Now we still might encounter trials and tribulations on the course but in the larger scheme of things, there irrelevant, and the enjoyment that this game and the social golf club were members of, is reward in itself. Still however there are even greater winners every week and this weeks tour de force in the yellow jerseys were the pairing of Liam Brady and Pat Connell with 46pts only pipping the pairing of Alan Rock and Viv Connell on a count back. Well done all.
PLEASE NOTE the timesheet for the Captains prize is now in the clubhouse and get your name down early as this is the one that everyone wants to win. Over the years the good, the great and the plain lucky have seen their name in lights and this year it could be you. Can the PRO come last (actually last) 3 years running? Only time will tell.
Mid Week Warriors: As the great Morton Shaevitz says, "You may be on the back nine of life but its good to finish strong!" thankfully in Virginia we only have 9 holes so this is irrelevant for our senior golfers. Last weeks worthy winners were, 1st Olivia Monaghan, Pat Murphy, Mike Brown 57.9. 2nd Kitty Cogan, Eva Williams, Gerry Eagleton, Frank Fahy 61.0.

July 17th: In a weekend that saw the Dubs saunter to another Leinster title, another Dublin giant strode across the competition to see himself at the top of the tree at the end of this weekends play. This man was our competitions secretary James O'Brien. Methodical in technique and all things competition, James would have reveled in the regulatory accounting needed to separate the pack this week with himself beating Patrick Connell and the venerable Captain Gary Corcoran by a count back. Well Done James, peaking at a good time of the year.
MID WEEK WARRIORS: Our Seniors continue to dominate the flora and fauna of our course with more extensive coverage than Japanese knot weed. Unlike that pesky invader their presence and skill gives hope to all us duffers in the club that there is always time to improve and this game does not view age as a boundary to success. The last two scrambles have been won by the following teams: July 5 - 1st P. Hutchinson, P. Fitzpatrick, L. Cotter, N. Maguire 61.1, 2nd E Williams, S. Galligan, P.McCullough, F. O'Reilly 61.5. July 13 - 1st B. O'Reilly, J. Clarke, P. Fitzpatrick 58.4, 2nd E Davidson, P McCullough, P. Curran 62.7. Well done as always to all competitors.
President's Day 2016
Royal Troon played host this weekend to "The Open" well last weekend (July 10th) Virginia Golf Club saw its first major of the year settled convincingly. After Day 1 many members were in contention, with the pressure mounting and the chance of golfing immortality within their grasps. Some rose to the occasion, some crashed and burned, others forgot to put their name on the timesheet (PRO), however when the dust settled one man stood tall and was proclaimed champion. This titan amongst golfers was Terry Smith, beating the field by 5 shots after a solid first round was built upon. Congratulations Terry. In second place was Stephen Coleman with a second round 5 shots better than his first day and in third place by count back was Ray Foley. The presentation was made in the Lakeside Manor and everyone agreed the competition was fierce this year. Well done all, roll on the next major.
