Paddy McInerney Cup
Our dear departed friend, Paddy McInerney, left us all too soon, a couple of years back. Paddy was a friend to everyone and was active up to the very end. He was a keen golfer and a fantastic member and committee member for Virginia Golf Club. He was also a man who spent a lot of his time in Crover Golf Club, a short trip from his home. Virginia Golf Club Captain Martin Sherry and his Crover counterpart, John McGinn, formulated the idea of an annual match between Virginia and Crover Golf Clubs to commemorate Paddy with the inaugural event to be played in Virginia and the match to alternate between the two clubs subsequently. The teams were selected with comradery in mind and the result very much secondary but the home side shaded the result in the end.
Pictured is Mrs Nuala McInerney presenting the Paddy McInerney Cup to Martin Sherry, Captain of the victorious Virginia team.

VGC Update August 4th
Conor McEvoy came third in the Cavan/Monaghan Alliance Norman Cinnimmon trophy for juniors at Co Cavan golf club on Monday. He carded a very decent 35 points.
Winners of the midweek 9 holes were Richard Kennedy with 23 points and Madeline McCabe with 24.
Winners of the final summer scramble of 2018 on Friday were Joe Greene, Helen O'Reilly, John Langsford, Aoife Galligan and Noah O'Sullivan. Second were Peter Gill, Madeline McCabe, Fintan O'Malley and Phelim McCabe. Third were Conor McEvoy, Eva Williams, Arthur Tormay and Rosaleen McHugh. All 3 teams had 29.
Also on Friday, a Virginia team of Tom Lynch (team captain), Cormac Cahill, Seamus Sheridan, Gerry Hopkins, Peter Foran and Joe Greene competed in the Cavan/Monaghan Alliance P J McArdle cup for seniors at Crover House. Having lead from the start, they finally had to settle for second place to Slieve Russell, losing out by one stroke. This was a terrific effort by the lads and a shame to lose out by just one stroke and not for the first time either. However, I'm reliably informed a good time was had by all.
